R&B singer Miguel recently released his EP entitled Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview. The 3-track project is part one of his three part musical appetizer until his full LP, Kaleidoscope Dream, is released Oct 2nd.
“I believe dreams represent the purest form of fantasy we unleash through our subconscious. They represent the truest freedom we can experience. Totally unrepressed and totally creative.” – Miguel
The Water Preview‘s “Use Me” is my current “Song of the Moment”. It has been on repeat on my iTunes playlist since it leaked onto the web in late July. “Use Me” does not follow the current R&B euro-dance trend, but instead features electric guitar riffs that are orgasmic to the ears.

“My body is waving a white flag, take me…”, Miguel croons in the first verse. On “Use Me”, Miguel sings about being guarded and then someone comes along who’s able to break down the walls. It’s at that moment you become so vulnerable and open that you surrender yourself to that person. I may have lost a few readers at this point, but it all makes sense after a few listens. It’s refreshing to see a man be that bare and raw with his feelings since we’ve been taught never to show that side ourselves.

Kaleidoscope Dream is one of my most anticipated albums of 2012 and I hope Miguel doesn’t let me down with a typical sophomore slump. For example, after Jazmine Sullivan’s second effort Love Me Back was released in 2010, I liked a couple of songs (“Excuse Me” & “Love You Long Time”) minus the singles of course, but it wasn’t worth purchasing. The majority of the album sounded like material left off her debut that did not fit at the time and overall the album wasn’t consistent. In any event, back to Miguel… His debut album, All I Want Is You, is still a classic R&B album I can always go back to if his second LP is a disappointment.

Miguel, currently signed to RCA records, burst onto the music scene back in late 2006 when the demo version of his song “Sure Thing” leaked onto the web and since then he’s been working his way to the top. Miguel wrote songs on Usher’s 2008 album Here I Stand, Musiq Soulchild’s OnMyRadio that same year, and his own All I Want Is You reached the top ten on the R&B album charts in 2010. Since releasing his first album, Miguel has been featured on rapper Wale’s 2011 single “Lotus Flower Bomb”, released three free EPs in early 2012 (Art Dealer Chic Vol. 1, 2 & 3), and also appeared on the Nas single “Summer On Smash” this year.
