London singer/songwriter Laurel reinterprets tracks from FKA Twigs, Andru, and Yung Gud for her new mixtape Allelopathy. The project was inspired by the biological phenomenon where organisms produce biochemicals that influence the growth, survival and reproduction of other organisms.
The 20-year-old performer’s latest effort follows the critically acclaimed EPs To The Hills and Holy Water. With Britney Spears, Laura Marling, and Ellie Goulding as influences, it’s understandable why Allelopathy easily morphs between elements of Pop, Folk, and Electronica. Laurel throws in R&B and Hip Hop sounds as well to create a 5-track genre-bending opus.
