In response to problematic YouTube star Logan Paul’s cover of their song “Handlebars,” Flobots dropped the track “Handle Your Bars.” Paul went on to piss off most of the Internet by uploading a video that appeared to show the body of a man who committed suicide in Japan’s Aokigahara forest.
Other footage from Paul’s trip to the island nation caused even more uproar because of the 22-year-old’s seemingly disrespectful attitude toward the country. Flobots’ emcee Jamie “Jonny 5” Laurie once again countered the controversial vlogger by offering a more positive version of Japanese culture.
The Japan American Society of Colorado asked the wordsmith to create art addressing the theme of “Womenomics.” Jonny posted a video for “Duel Lingo” which presents him rapping in Japanese and English while delivering a message encouraging respect and support for the #MeToo movement.
This week, Flobots also begin the second leg of their “RISE + SHINE Tour.” The alternative Hip Hop band will certainly run through cuts from their 2017 album NOENEMIES.
