Emcee/producer/visual artist Deca worked with director/animator Steven Mertens to create the video for “Mammon’s Mantra.” The song is hosted on The Way Through album where the Denver native takes on the military-industrial complex, mass media, the surveillance state, and other social-political issues.
“It’s about the power structure and the cultural symptoms of a deep psychological sickness at a time when the world is equal parts 1984 and Brave New World,” explains Deca about “Mammon’s Mantra.”
He continues, “In Brave New World, it was all distractions, antidepressants, mindless entertainment, and carnality. In 1984, big brother put a boot on the neck of anyone that posed a real threat to the system and status quo. I think the scales are pretty balanced between those two poles right now.”
