What’s an action movie without a kick-ass scene where our favorite characters rush across the screen in hyper fast motor vehicles? The car chase is a pivotal hallmark in movie making, so DZI: The Voice decided to point out the ten film scenes that have presented iconic moments featuring automobiles as the center of attention.

10. The Bourne Identity (2002)
Jason Bourne’s (Matt Damon) car chase through alleyways, on sidewalks, and down steps in Paris reportedly left the movie’s crew with only one of the four Austin Mini Coopers used for the scene by the end of filming.

It’s hard to select just one scene in a movie that’s all about being chased down in a car, so it seems fair that the entire picture gets recognized for the list. This Richard C. Sarafian film is an hour and half thrill ride from Colorado to California as Kowalski, in a Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Magnum, evades police hot on his trail.

3. Death Proof (2007)
The story goes Quentin Tarantino came up with the idea for this slasher movie after telling a friend he didn’t want to die in car accident like the one in Pulp Fiction, and the acquaintance told him $10,000 and a good stunt team could get him a “death-proof” car. With that audiences were eventually blessed with being able to watch Zoë Bell hang from the roof of the classic 1970 Dodge Challenger, an homage to Vanishing Point.

In what is considered by many film experts as the revolutionary moment in the way car chases are filmed, Bullitt’s near 11-minute epic run became the staple for the industry and helped Frank P. Keller win the Academy Award for Best Editing.

Add together a veteran director (John Frankenheimer) of shooting car scenes, the movie’s actors actually riding in the vehicles, 300 stunt drivers, 80 wrecked cars, and the streets & tunnels of Paris, and you get the greatest car chase scene in movie history.
