Emerging from the Hip Hop hotbed of Atlanta is a new voice with a lot to say. Andre “Retro” Starkey is ready to put on for the city with his own brand of jazz and R&B infused tunes.
Retro’s stage name is definitely fitting since his new nine1 mixtape taps into 1990’s musicians with a twist of 2017 styles. The influence of Golden Era rap stars such as Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, The Notorious B.I.G., OutKast, and others can be heard throughout the project.
Besides nine1, Retro also let loose the visuals for the “Brandy / I LOVE NYC” mash-up. The 4-minute clip has a throwback feel as well.
