DMV crooner John Michael is back with his latest project. After releasing 2013’s Sophisticated LP and the 90’s inspired #NewJackThing Part One mixtape earlier this year, the R&B performer posted the free 10-track Young & Restless to the Internet overnight.
Y&R incorporates a mix of original production with beats from popular songs like Chris Brown’s “New Flame” and Adrian Marcel’s “2 AM”. JM also covers one of his musical influences on the project by taking on Michael Jackson’s smooth Off The Wall tune “I Can’t Help It”.
Besides paying homage to a few platinum-selling stars of Rhythm & Blues, Michael displays his own pen game on Young & Restless too. The Top Notch Music representative sprinkles in some rap as well thanks to guest features from emcees Black Collar and Cane.
“With this project I really was focused on showing who I am as a songwriter and person,” says Michael. “I’m a single father out here in the game dealing with relationships and industry politics, but at the end of the day when I’m in the studio, I’m at peace. Shout out my Sophisticated Ladies.”
